PORCH BENCH (working title) - Curved Steel with Hard Maple
After recently building a console table using my tubing roller, I wanted to try a different project with a larger diameter tubing. At my own home we needed a bench on our porch where I can take off or put on my dirty work shoes. This was the perfect opportunity to design a new piece of furniture with curved metal. I used 2'“x4” steel rectangular tube for the legs, 2” diameter round tube for the large curve, and 5/16” solid steel rod for the thin accent curve and welded everything together (followed by some tedious grinding). The color is a terra-cotta colored spray paint from Montana Gold although I would prefer to have these powder coated in the future. All the tubing ends are plugged with hard maple and the seat is hard maple with a concave shape, achieved by using a custom jig. The slot in the bench seat was intended to simply be a window to see the color below.
